Twin Bed vs Race Car Bed
I have a confession. My son, who is 3 and a half (almost 4) is still sleeping in his crib.
When he was younger I purposely hunted cribs until I found one that converted into a twin bed. I wanted to make sure it would last him not only through his baby years, but through his toddlerhood and beyond.
Of course, at that time, we were not expecting another child. We did not know yet if Parker was going to be an only, or if we were going to try for a little brother or sister.
Now, baby #2 is on the way, and will be here in November! So instead of buying a new crib, we're giving Parker's crib to the new one. That means that Parker gets a new bed.
This is where things get a little tricky.
Robert has been talking for some time about getting a race car bed for Parker, but we could never decide on which one. I told him we might as well get one that is twin sized, because he is quickly outgrowing his crib mattress, and will quickly outgrow a toddler size mattress. If we get a twin size race car bed, when he decided he is too old for a race car bed we can still used the twin size mattress on a twin size bed.
Parker has even seen a twin one he likes at Toys R Us, and its all we can do to keep him out of it. That one is a Step2 Stock Car Convertible Bed. It can hold a crib mattress, OR a twin mattress, and has the added bonus of extra high sides so we don't have to worry so much about our "big boy" falling out of his new bed as easily.
However, since the new baby is coming, we have to buy a dresser for Parker so the new baby can have the changing table/dresser that he is currently using. That is an expense.
And hubby has the frame of a twin size bed in storage. So if we use that twin size frame then we just have to buy a new mattress set and NOT a mattress set, and a race car bed frame, AND a new dresser.
We had JUST decided to go ahead and move Parker into his dad's old twin size bed when someone called and said they were getting rid of a race car bed, and would we like to have it!
So now we are back to trying to decide between a race car bed or his dad's twin bed.
Whatever we decide, it should be decided soon! Otherwise the new kid will be here and Parker will STILL be in the crib.
